Someone was able to pull back the car cover, and snap five photos of the 2008 Dodge Avenger. What do you guys think of this Caliber/Charger mashup?

  1. HELLO? Says:

It’s kind of UGLY!! This is a joke, isn’t it?

  2. rick Says:

it may not be beautiful, but besides the charger face, there’s a bit of a hint of caliber in the greenhouse area in the rear 3/4 view…so it’s instantly recognizable as a dodge. unfortunately, it’s biggest attribute may be that it doesn’t resemble the sebring. but kudos to chryser group for not going down the ‘badge-engineered’ path with the styling for these two cars. i guess that has to count for something.

I like it. 3/4 scale Charger.

  4. TerribleTom Says:

I LIKE IT! I think i would buy one. It has a similar front end to the Mitsu Diamante… which I also liked.

  5. Joe D. Says:

Doesnt look bad!As long as its good on gas it should sell pretty well.Younger crowd might like it cause its kinda sporty looking also…

  6. Joe D. Says:

Does anyone know when it will be out?

  7. DaveS Says:

Joe D, a guy who works at a Dodge dealership says they’ve been told to expect the release of the Avenger in late Jan. or Feb..

This looks good to me, and I join in the applause for the end of badge engineering and the fine job of distinguishing the sheet metal on Avenger from that used on the Sebring. It looks like DCX is differentiating Sebring and Avenger in the same way that it makes the character lines and all outward apperances of the 300 different from those of the Charger, even though the drive trains are the same…These very sharp and clear photos give me real hope that this next generation is one helluva big improvement over Stratus.

  8. Kevin B. Says:

    Very distinguishing

  9. Kevin B. Says:

Yea I definitly would buy one. It has sharp lines, even the fender flares look good. The rear quarter panels even have the Charger lines that run into the rear door. Great job DCX guys!!

  10. Mark D. Says:

Like others I like the looks to. Let’s hope the quality is as good as the looks because no matter how good a car or truck looks if the quality is lacking the car buying public won’t buy your product. I think DCX has a hit. Go Chrysler!

  11. JW Says:

Wow! I thought I wanted a Ram for my next vehicle, but now after seeing this…DCX is bringing some competition to the table.

  12. JW Says:

Wow! I thought I wanted a Ram for my next vehicle, but now after seeing this…DCX is bringing some good competition to the table.

  13. Dave Says:

Wow! I expected a lot from DCX on the Avenger and they have not dissappointed! If the interior is even slightly upscale this car is going to be a winner! I can’t see any competition in the segment that brings the style and aggressive looks to the table that the Avenger does. All we need now is a truely tuned SRT version and we have a real player!

  14. Seadog Says:

    Looks like a 4-door mustang.

  15. David C. Says:

Park the Avenger next to a Sebring and I bet the Avenger will sell instead of the Sebring. The Sebring doesn’t stand a chance. That’s probably why they unveiled it first. I thought I wanted the Hornet, but after seeing the Avenger, I have changed my mind. I can’t wait to get my hands on this beast.

  16. Jay B. Says:

It looks like a Caliber and Charger SRT-8 got together and had a kid with Down Syndrone. Not too good…

  17. Alex Rodriguez Says:

Much better initial impression than the Sebring, even in a blah color like this. I like it. Dodge could use this car yesterday!

  18. rick Says:

wow. i’ve been monitoring comments in other sites about these photos and the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly positive regarding the avenger’s looks. seems kind of strange after all the flack i read when photos of the charger first made light.
but i’m imagining what this car might look like without the huge front overhang fwd vehicles require. wouldn’t dcx have a hit if they took the outgoing c-class platform, and in much the same way the old e-class became the lx, created a line of mid-size rwd vehicles to compliment these offerings? i can’t imagine them being anything less than successful and it sure would be a way to offer an alternative to the superlative japanese offerings.

This design makes me pose five major questions:

    1) Why is The Charger not a two door unless this car is merely an afterthought of the Charger only scaled down to attempt to fit a niche?

    2) Does this car have it’s own identity or is it merely a “Baby Charger wanna be” ??

    3) If it has the same crappy rubberized interior The Charger and Caliber have is DCX really moving forward or just giving it’s cars “skin jobs”?

    4) What ground is Dodge breaking with this vehicle, what new technologies are being offered/explored? Every other import tries something new when they revamp a car line. Or is this just another Hot wheel body on the same old “Hot wheel” chassis? Flex fuel/ hybrid in the works?

    5) DCX cars generally get God aweful milage compared to other cars their size, are we suppose to guess this one is different? Jettas and Camrays get 27 to 32 mpg is this thing going to even come close?

This car looks good enough for some but I’m not buying it, nor will I buy it. I’m not sold, as it takes more than smoke and mirrors to impress me.

  20. 26chzz Says:

By the way, anyone who believes this was “leaked” is an idiot this is an underground attempt at releasing info. This might have as well have had a press conference with a live satelite Q and A session. This is a low budget press release nothing more, this was not uncovered or stumbled upon and was planed albiet poorly by DCX brass. Boo Dodge.

  21. Joe D. Says:

As long as it doesnt have a plastic dashboard im sold!NO PLASTIC DASHBOARD CHRYSLER!

  22. Joe D. Says:

Guess the guys at DCX were really ticked off that this was leaked!Thats why the pictures were removed on the other website..Sweet ride though!

  23. alan Says:

I think Chrysler is following the GM business model, design products so ugly that people stop buying them and then use the reduced demand as the reason to kill off the brand.

  24. Joe D. Says:

This thing in black would be SUPER SWEET!

  25. David C. Says:

Actually, the pics were probably leaked by Chrysler. That way that could get a real world reaction before they actually did a debut. The reaction to the Sebring and Aspen has not been very good. The good news is the Nitro has generated good reviews. The Aveneger should be just as good.

  26. Detroit Derek Says:

Those photos are not leacked by DCX.
I know of the person who snapped those.
Word out there is that DCX is highly upset and pissed these pictures made it to message boards.
Many of the message boards (like SRTforums, where this link takes you) have removed the pictures.
Rumor is many sites have had a cease and desist.

  27. James Says:

the avenger looks like a baby charger which is great, i hope it comes to the uk where i live.

  28. Middy Says:

I think the overal shape is pleasing but I’m still not a fan of the mishmash of design lines that meet around the base of the C-pillar. I know they think It’s an homage to the chargers of the past but the lines just look chopped together. It’s my biggest disapointment in the Charger as well. I prefer the more gracefull 68-70 style c pillar to the hard angle of the 71 and up.

  29. Anonymous Says:

Detroit Derek hopefully your friend can get a pic of the 08-09 Ram concept..lol..lots of people want to see it.
