Greatest Mopar Ever Made?

Is it the 1969 Charger R/T? the 1970 Hemi Cuda convertible? Or is the Plymouth Prowler? 1967 Dodge Coronet R/T? Or maybe a classic Chrysler Imperial? Or maybe is it the 300C SRT-8?     Now I know I’ll get a lot of flack for this, but it has to be the Chrysler 300/LX platform. It has totally and completely changed the image if Chrysler and Dodge. Rear wheel drive in a big, powerful vehicle is what people have been missing for so long. And look at GM and Ford with their answers to the 300… a restyled Impala that is still weak and front wheel drive and a totally anonymous Ford 500 that is so unbelieveably bland?? You have to give credit where credit is due to Mr. Ralph Giles and Dieter Zetsche. They’re the reason that DaimlerChrysler isn’t in the same big mess that their Big 3 counterparts are in.

    1970 Plymouth Superbird with any engine (440, 440-6,426). Ruled the race track in 1970 and now commands top dollar at auction or private sale.

    Chrysler Forever is right on the money, it’s the 300/LX platform that will shine through the ages until the end of time when people think back about great vehicles from MOPAR. But you gotta recognize that automotive historians with more objectivity than those of us who devour this blog will say the minivans, from the very first one in ‘84, through every redesign, are Chrysler’s greatest contribution to the automobile industry. They would argue that not only is the minivan the most significant vehicle that Chrysler ever produced, but it was a pioneering concept that every major competitor tried to emulate, sold in the millions and was a huge commercial success for Chrysler. Arguably, without minivans and the Jeep brand, Chrysler would not have been at all appealing to Mercedes and there would have been no merger in ‘98. At the other end of the objectivity spectrum, there are friends of mine who will question the sanity and manhood of anyone who doesn’t immediately respond to this question by saying Viper.

    ‘69 Charger Daytona/’70 Plymouth Superbird
    ‘70 Cuda & Challenger
    ‘71 Charger R/T
    ‘03 Viper SRT-10
    ‘04 Ram SRT-10

    ‘94-’96 Dodge Stealth R/T TT
    ‘03 Wrangler Rubicon
    and
    ‘00 Dakota R/T (because I own one, and I believe it is the sexiest truck ever made!!)

    ‘57 300C Convertible (gotta love the fins)
    ‘70 and 71 Cuda and Challenger (GM started the muscle car wars, Mopar won it)
    The Power Wagon (All of ‘em 45 to 68)
    1974 Dodge Monaco (It’s got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it’s got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks.)
    Hemi Magnum (my personal conveyance)
    I’m gonna throw the ‘09 Challenger up here out of hope.

    Greatest cars that Chrysler Corp never produced:
    The next gen Sunbeam Tiger
    A decent CHEAP 2 seater convertible (Crossfire doesnt count at cheap)
    The Chrysler Citadel (the concept that became the Pacifica)
    The Jeepster (come on that thing is SWEET)

    It’s extremely hard to pick just one but my vote would be any of the Max Wedge cars. 62-64 Dodge 330’s and Polaras or the Plymouth Belvederes of the same vintage. Mopar started the muscle car era with the Max Wedge cars even though the somewhat lame in the tooth GTO garnered all the credit. There wasn’t anything rolling off the show room floors in those years that could hold a candle to a Max Wedge. They were only eclipsed by the Mopar’s Hemi in late 64 and on.

    I’d say the dodge vipor. The cross grill changed dodge look forever.
    SRT-4 looks like a mini viper. I’m glad they went with that look before the neon died.

    The 1968 Hemi Dart/Cuda. Big race hemi in a lightweight A body. Who cares if it can’t turn left or right? Just the wow factor alone of a four foot high wheelstand is worthy of my vote.
