Chrysler Group January 2007 U.S. Sales Rise 1 Percent
Highlights:
* Jeep Commander sales improve 30 percent (incentives, incentives, incentives!!!)
* Jeep(R) brand sales rise 19 percent powered by the continued strength of Jeep Wrangler (the Wrangler is a solid performer)
* PT Cruiser sales off 30% from last year.
* Pacifica, Magnum, and Aspen sales are all in the 2-3 K range.
* Caliber and Nitro are selling well. The Compass in a distant third. it will be interesting to see how the Compass does once the Patriot is added to the mix.
* Sharp decline in 300 sales from previous year. Volume is off by 1/3 from this time in 2006.

Have you noticed that Wrangler (8,954) outsold 300 (8,587) by 367 units? Also, Caliber (8,672) outsold 300 (8,587) by 85 units. The third thing that hit me is that Nitro (6,191) combines with Liberty (7,141) to give that Toledo line, combined sales of 13,332. Add Wrangler’s 8,954 sales to the mix, and you get combined Jan. sales of 22,286 units produced in Toledo.

Locally the Nitro and Caliber are selling well. Aspens are hard to find on the dealer’s lots, but haven’t seen any on the road.
Will the slowing 300 sales speed up the addition of the Challenger to those facilities? (IhopeIhopeIhope)

This will be a year that will really tell where Chrysler stands. They have a lot of new vehicles out there already or that are coming out real soon.I wanna see monthly percentages a lot higher than 1% for the month, like in January!I think it will really be hard if gas keeps creeping higher also, being that 70% of Chrysler sales are large Trucks and SUV’s.If Chrysler doesnt make a profit this year, and im not talking about a profit of 100 Million,im talking about a nice size profit, the crap is really going to hit the fan.If we lose money again this year you can really expect the worse to happen.

The new Sebring is already in trouble with less sales than the previous Sebring, last year this time. The Compass is a flop. The new Aspen only sold a little more than 2,000,go figure. The Dakota,Durango and the Magnum are in the gutter. The 300 is at the 8,000 level. The Wrangler is doing well, but what will happen once sales start to mello out.Pacifica is losing momentum big time. The Patriot might do ok,with maybe around 5,000 a month ,but it still has a loud and not to impressive engine from Consumers Reports study and it also has the same crummy cheap plastic as the other Chrysler vehicles. After looking at all these figures,it doesnt look like the product offensive is going very well for the Chrysler group. If this company doesnt start making vehicles people want, and doesnt stop making the interiors 100% plastic, then Chrysler will be claiming bankruptcy in due time. When the Chinese start selling vehicles here in a few years,I guarantee that their interiors will be better than Chryslers.WHEN_ARE_THEY_EVER_GOING_TO_LEARN?

Chrysler needs to improve its warranty. GM, Hyundai, Kia, and Suzuki all offer much better warranties. Furthermore, other than the 300, DCXs recent new car designs have not been received too well.
Why the new Sebring ranks much lower than a 4 year old Accord is beyond me. No excuse! The accountable managers should be fired.

Two paragraphs excerpted from the Feb. 2 Wall Street Journal (page A3) article headlined “GM,Ford Lose More Auto Market to Rivals”:
“DaimlerChrysler also reported rising sales, with volume climbing 3.2% to 173,407 vehicles, thanks to a strong month by its Mercedes-Benz brand. The luxury division’s sales increased 37%, underscoring the strength of the
luxury-car market despite what is expected to be an overall weak year for car sales.
“DaimlerChyrsler’s Chrysler unit also managed to boost sales by 1%, thanks to sales of new models such as Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Caliber compact. Chrysler has also cut fleet sales nearly as deeply as GM and Ford are doing.”

Now GM offers a better warranty on their used cars than Chrysler offers on their new cars: GM to offer 100,000-mile warranties on used cars
Sharon Terlep / The Detroit News
Consumers will get a 100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty on all 2002-06 GM Certified Used Vehicles sold by U.S. dealers, General Motors Corp. announced today.
The warranties will become available March 5 and be fully transferable.
A similar offering soon will be made for Saturn vehicles, said Troy Clarke, president of GM’s North American operations. He was speaking in Las Vegas at the North American Automobile Dealers annual convention.
The move is an effort to bolster GM’s reputation for quality. It’s aimed at helping the company maintain its position as the No. 1 automaker, said Clarke.
“This is what you’d expect from a company like GM - a company that wants to remain a leader,” he said.
The powertrain warranty covers more than 900 components related to the engine, transmission, transfer case (if applicable) and final drive assemblies on all GM Certified Used Vehicles from Buick, Chevrolet, GMC, Oldsmobile and Pontiac sold in the United States.
Those used vehicles also come with three-month, 3,000-mile bumper-to-bumper comprehensive limited warranties.
The powertrain warranty coverage, effective from a vehicle’s original in-service date, includes a 24-hour roadside-assistance plan valid through five years or 100,000 miles, whichever happens first.
Cadillac Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles, Saab Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles and Hummer Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles operate separate programs. Each has a six-year 100,000-mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty effective from a vehicle’s in-service date.

Still reading The Wall Street Journal of Feb. 2, and on page W12 there is a review of the Aspen carrying this headline: Chrysler’s First SUV Misses the Mark.” Suffice to say that they sing the praise of the Hemi, but pan everything else about the Aspen. Here’s the last four paragraphs of the article:
“What you won’t notice during a test drive is how quickly the interior in the Aspen can show its age. My test vehicle had just over 7,000 miles on it, and already the light-colored plastics and seating surfaces looked old and worn. Chrysler isn’t known for high-quality interior finishes, and the Aspen doesn’t remedy this reputation. The optional leather seats are covered with a tough and shiny material that more resembles vinyl than anything once worn by an animal. Whatever happened to Chrysler’s soft Corinithian leather?
” For that matter, what’s become of Chrysler’s design department? This is an organization that just a decade ago prided itself on delivering maximum curb appeal. Today, with the notable except of the 300 sedan, the Chrysler-brand lineup is an aesthetic embarrassment.
“The Aspen’s sole distinguishing visual characteristic, the metal strakes that trim its hood, is borrowed from the Crossfire, a sports car so unpopular that Chrysler dealers managed to sell only 10 of them during all of December. Hardly the sort of vehicle you want to iconify, the Crossfire’s look also graces the tedious new Sebring.
“At least that model doesn’t pretend to be a luxury vehicle.”

Dr. Zetsche, Mr. La Sorda, wake up and smell the coffee! This is The Wall Street Journal, not some magazine for gearheads. Investors read it. DO SOMETHING!

This review isn’t in some car rag for gearheads, it’s in the Wall Street Journal (page W12), whose demographic consists of investors and affluent -types who can afford Aspens. Dr. Z, wake up and smell the coffee!

Overall all the numbers are very bleak for pretty much all of Chrysler’s models (the 300 had never sold under 9K units for a month) but the BIG news was Chrysler Group (all domestic cars and trucks) out sold all Ford (Ford, Merc & Linc car and truck) for the first time in a month in probably 50 yrs. This was more a fact of Ford’s troubles and their cutting back on fleet sales but it is VERY interesting and historic from a Chrysler point of view.

No matter how they spin it, the products are not being received with great sales success or a big reception by the public. They better change the way they do things or even more trouble is ahead soon.

As a consumer of Chrysler vehicles, this is my point of view, I love my 2001 Sebring. Best car that I ever owned. It has awesome gas mileage hardly have had any major problems. I am ready to trade it in, but I will not trade it in and get the new Sebring. The body of the new Sebring is just plain ugly. It’s too boxy and the trunk is too short on the exterior even though its huge on the inside. It’s a big disapointmet in the style department.
Now I have seen the Apen on the showroom floor. Thats a very nice SUV with great classic styling, not over done or shocking, but too bad it’s not in my price range. What I would like to see Chrysler put out a mid size SUV like the Aspen. This just a consumers point of view not an automobile experts.

Dear chrysler corperation,
You guys need to get of the piece of crap PT Cruiser. I test drove one. You can not pass any cars on the freeway. No one even likes them any way! For all the people who bought a PT cruiser, when is the last time you had a cat scan? Oh, by the way, Dodge, you need to work on the charger too. A 4 door charger? Come one now!
